Modified School Start Times
As we approach the new school year, we want to inform you about some important changes that will affect our elementary and secondary schools.
Elementary Schools
Starting this year, the school day for elementary students will begin later than last year. This adjustment is part of our efforts to address a significant reduction in available funding.
The state requires us to provide planning time for all teachers under RCW 28A.150.260, this adjustment to student start time enables us to do so. Building leaders and staff will focus on maintaining essential programming and ensuring our students receive the best possible education under these circumstances.
To prioritize basic education requirements and provide a reduced educational program, we have made the following adjustments:
- MONDAY Late Starts: 10:30 am start (was 10:15 am). Students should be dropped off no earlier than 10:15 am. School day ends at 3:30 pm.
- TUESDAY – FRIDAY: 9:30 am start (was 9 am). Students should be dropped off no earlier than 9:15 am. School day ends at 3:30 pm.
- Transportation routes will be published at a later date.
- We anticipate this change may present some challenges for you and would like to provide an opportunity for you to share those with us here.
Secondary Schools
For our secondary schools, the school day will begin 10 minutes earlier and end 10 minutes earlier than last year. This shift in time will help our bus drivers get to the elementary routes sooner, thus decreasing wait times for our younger students. There is no change to the bell schedule for CBTech (8am start).
