'Red Hawks' Logo

Moses Lake, Washington– Columbia Middle School is excited to introduce the revised branding and logo for its new mascot, the Red Hawks. Formerly, the Chief Moses Middle School Braves, the school name and mascot change comes as a result of House Bill 1356, which passed in April 2021; lawfully prohibiting the use of Native American names, symbols, or images as public school mascots, logos, or team name).

New school names and mascot finalists were selected by the Mascot Committee; a group of 15 students, parents, staff, and community members. Together, they weighed hundreds of ideas and submissions from a public survey. After considering the history and geography of Moses Lake, as well as possible cost savings for the new branding (retaining the school's color scheme and initials,) the proposed new branding, was presented to the MLSD Board of Directors for approval. Once approved, Columbia students voted on their favorite logo, selecting these winning variations.
