Long Range Facility Planning

This team has been commissioned with the task of collaboratively developing a Long Range Facility Master Plan for Moses Lake School District. This team is a small group of community volunteers and representative staff. While similar work may have been done in the past this team has the charge to use a data-based approach in the development of this comprehensive capital facility plan for today and tomorrow. The efforts of this team will serve as a recommendation for action to our board of directors for use of the 2017 Capital Projects Bond from February 2017.

The goal of this team is to complete their work with a short and long-term facility master plan to meet the Moses Lake School District’s needs for years to come. Over the past several months the Board of Directors has been reviewing data and changing conditions. While no definitive decisions have been made, the following parameters have been established to guide the work of this Long Range Facility Master Planning Team. The recommended Long Range Facility Master Plan shall include or be responsive to:

  • Maximization of State Construction Assistance Program funding to minimize local tax responsibility
  • The 2017 Bond Election and the original intent of bond construction projects
  • Enrollment data based on enrollment projections and school utilization rates
  • Long-term bond capacity
  • Changing costs of school construction
  • Safety and security considerations
  • Shifting practices of Early Learning Services
  • Shifting practices within high school programming
  • Needs across all grade levels (Elementary, Middle School, and High School)
  • Short term and long term outlook (20, 30, 40 years)
  • Functional Adequacy of all schools in Moses Lake School District

This team will consist of diverse thinkers and community participants to come together to make a comprehensive recommendation for action by our Board of Directors. Our goal is for this team to think critically, ask questions, review and study data, discuss with team members, and actively contribute to the development of the comprehensive plan.
