Faith, Family, and Service: Getting to Know Kirryn Jensen

For Kirryn Jensen, life rarely slows down.
Between raising three children, helping run a family horse boarding business, and serving as president of the Moses Lake School Board, her days are deeply rooted in family, hard work, and community.
But ask Jensen what matters most, and her answer comes quickly: doing what’s right even when it isn’t easy.
Outside the boardroom, Jensen’s world revolves around her family farm.
Alongside her husband and children, she helps operate a horse boarding and riding business, where the family provides boarding, riding lessons, and horse training. Most recently, they began construction on a new riding arena with hopes of hosting future events.
For Jensen, horses are more than a hobby. They’ve become part of her life’s purpose.
“One of my favorite things to do with horses is help one that needs extra love and care,” she shared. “We rehabilitate them and help find them wonderful homes once they’ve healed.”
Jensen says the people who shaped her most weren’t found in a classroom, they were at home.
“My most influential teachers throughout my life have been my parents,” she said.
She credits them with teaching her the importance of honesty, consistency, and doing the right thing, even when it’s difficult.
Growing up, Jensen often brought home animals that needed care, rehabilitation, or a second chance. From farm animals to cats, dogs, and horses, those experiences taught her lifelong lessons about compassion and responsibility.
“One of the biggest lessons I have learned,” she said, “is that doing what is right is not always the easiest, but it is always what is best.”
Today, those same values guide both her business and her role in public service.
For Jensen, the best moments in life are often the simplest.
A great day means trail rides with her family, working together on projects around the farm, or spending weekends together at horse competitions.
It’s a lifestyle centered on teamwork, connection, and shared experiences. This is something she believes carries over into the broader Moses Lake community as well.
Jensen says one of the things she appreciates most about Moses Lake is its balance.
“There is always something going on,” she said, pointing to the community involvement and year-round activities that make the area feel connected while still maintaining a small-town atmosphere.
That connection to community and to local families helped inspire her decision to step into school board service.
Jensen said she saw an opportunity to become involved at a time when she felt families needed stronger awareness and engagement around educational issues affecting students and schools.
Her motivation, she explained, came from wanting to help ensure schools remain focused on providing students with a safe, supportive, and positive educational experience.
When Jensen thinks about students walking into school each day, her hopes are straightforward.
“I hope students feel safe, supported, and connected to a community,” she said.
It’s a vision grounded in belonging, consistency, and care.
Even during difficult conversations or challenging decisions, Jensen says her focus remains on students and the kind of educational experience families want for their children.
“My heart is invested in this work because of my desire to protect our students’ innocence and keep their educational experience safe,” she said.
For Jensen, service on the school board ultimately comes back to the same values that guide life on her farm: honesty, consistency, compassion, and doing what’s right.
And whether she’s working with students, families, or horses in need of a second chance, those principles remain at the center of who she is.
