MLSD Welcomes Two New Executive Directors to Leadership Team

The Moses Lake School District has announced the appointment of two experienced education leaders to serve in key executive roles starting July 1, 2025. Yvonne Walker has been named Executive Director of Teaching and Learning, and Scott West will step into the role of Executive Director of Safety and Wellbeing.
These positions are central to the district’s long-term strategic plan, with Walker leading instructional systems and West guiding districtwide student support and safety efforts. Both leaders bring deep experience and a clear commitment to student success.
Superintendent Carol Lewis expressed excitement about the addition of both individuals to the district’s leadership team.
“We are excited to welcome Yvonne Walker and Scott West to Moses Lake,” Lewis said. “Their expertise and leadership will provide critical momentum as we invest in strong academics, a safe and supportive culture, and systems that serve the whole child. These are not just administrative roles—they are essential to how we live out our mission of ensuring the success and well-being of all.”
Instructional Leadership
Walker joins the district with a broad range of experience in school and district leadership roles. Most recently, she served as Executive Director of Teaching and Learning for grades 6–12 in the Marysville School District. Her past roles also include serving as superintendent of the Manson School District, as well as a building administrator in Arlington and classroom teacher. She holds a superintendent certificate and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Seattle Pacific University and is currently pursuing her doctorate at Western Washington University.
Walker is widely recognized for her collaborative leadership style and her focus on equity, coherence, and inclusion across instructional systems. Her approach emphasizes aligning teaching and learning with community values and ensuring every student has access to rigorous, standards-aligned learning experiences.
“I think the most exciting thing is getting to bring teams of colleagues together and really maximizing their ability to increase achievement for kids in the district,” said Walker. “I’m a collaborative leader and I’m a relational leader. We need to focus on positivity and relationships and working together to bring the best to the kids.”
As Executive Director of Teaching and Learning, Walker will oversee curriculum, instructional design, professional development, and academic interventions across all grade levels.
Focus on Safety and Wellbeing
West is no stranger to Moses Lake. A graduate of Moses Lake High School, he previously served the district as a teacher, elementary principal, and middle school principal. He returns to MLSD after leading the Warden School District as superintendent, where he guided the district through pandemic recovery, secured passage of both EP&O and capital levies, and led a comprehensive strategic planning process. He also played a central role in mentoring and developing district leadership teams.
West holds a master’s degree in teaching from Heritage University and a superintendent certificate from the University of Montana.
“I’m just thrilled to be able to return to a promising community and school district that is dedicated to the overall success of students,” said West. “My top priorities in year one are building and maintaining strong relationships with the stakeholders involved in the success of students.”
Throughout his career, West has focused on building inclusive, student-centered environments. His new role will include overseeing school safety, emergency preparedness, student behavior systems, counseling services, and threat assessment coordination.
Looking Ahead
Walker and West will join the superintendent’s executive leadership team and help lead the district’s efforts to strengthen coherence, capacity, and alignment across schools.
“These appointments mark a significant step forward in our efforts to create coherence, capacity and alignment across the district,” Lewis added. “Yvonne and Scott will play vital roles in providing leadership so that every student can achieve their fullest potential.”
