Recognizing the School Board: Building the Future of Public Education

January is School Board Recognition Month, a time to honor the dedicated individuals who serve on the Moses Lake School District Board of Directors and to recognize the important role school boards play in public education.
School board members are locally elected volunteers who represent the community and work to ensure the district’s vision, values, and goals are reflected in policy and decision-making. Their responsibilities include setting district policy, adopting the annual budget, hiring and evaluating the superintendent, and providing long-term strategic direction to support student success.
This year’s statewide theme, Building the Future of Public Education, highlights the critical leadership role school boards play in guiding districts through complex challenges while keeping student learning at the center of every decision. Board members balance fiscal responsibility, community expectations, and educational priorities, all while serving as a direct link between the public and the school system.
Throughout January, the district will recognize its board members for their service, commitment, and leadership. Their work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt across classrooms, schools, and the community.
Moses Lake School District is grateful for the time, dedication, and care our school board members give to our students, staff, and families. School Board Recognition Month is an opportunity to say thank you for helping shape the future of public education in our community.
